I had a great time visiting the Sussex County Science Fair today at Delaware Tech in Georgetown. The level of creativity, effort, and knowledge on display was truly impressive. Students did an outstanding job not only designing their projects, but also confidently explaining their research and findings.

It was also a full-circle moment during the visit. Mr. Snyder shared a 1992 newspaper clipping from a science experiment his class conducted and the photo happened to include a young me, as I was a student in Mr. Snyder’s class at the time!

Seeing that photo was a great reminder that the curiosity and hands-on learning happening in classrooms today can spark ideas that last a lifetime. Great job to all of the students who participated in this year’s science fair!

Following this week’s unusual winter storm, I want to recognize the men and women who have been working around the clock to keep our communities safe and restore essential services. Crews from DelDOT, Delmarva Power, the Delaware Electric Co-Op, municipal public works departments and their power providers, and our phone, cable, and internet companies have been out in difficult conditions clearing roads, repairing lines, restoring connectivity, and taking your calls.

While significant progress has been made, some residents are still experiencing outages. Fallen trees continue to block portions of roadways, and in some neighborhoods and subdivisions travel may be limited to a single passable lane. Please use caution, allow extra travel time, and remain patient as crews continue their work.

This storm has been an exception to what we typically experience in Delaware. For those who have moved here from regions where storms like this are routine, our infrastructure, staffing levels, and equipment are not designed for this level of impact. Even so, the response has been steady, professional, and focused on safety.

Thank you to everyone working long hours to restore normalcy, and to our residents for their patience and cooperation as work continues.

This looks like the road we live on in Georgetown. We live on Cedar Lane

100% agree! All the crews working deserve our gratitude for their sacrifices and dedication.

They are doing a great job and we appreciate all their hard work!

And thank you to our first responders: Fire, Police and EMS...and us 911 Dispatchers and our Call-takers...all of whom are "essential personnel", who (if scheduled to work) cannot "stay home and stay safe". Also a shout out to the Emergency OPs Center Supervising Staff who showed up to take the lead on all emergencies happening in Sussex County as a result of this blizzard and/or during this time.

And thank you to the neighbors helping neighbors.

Thank you for your help and your hard working 🙏😘

I agree Senator that the men and women that braved blizzard conditions and its aftermath to secure power should be applauded as heroes. My son and I had no power for three days and we were so appreciative of the updates that Delaware Co-op provided . I salute them

You all have been amazing. I went out shopping today and saw all the damaged trees and power lines. Thank you for your hard worand long hours. We may have lost power for awhile but we were inside and had blankets while you had to be out in hazardous conditions.

Thanks to all for your time, efforts and dedication!!!!

Well said, Senator Pettyjohn.

Yes! Thank you all so much for your hard work! The blizzard of 2026.

Yes sir !!!!

Thank ya all and stay safe, prayers 🙏

Thank you all for what excellent craftsmanship and dedication. You all deserve a round of applause. You people are really amazing. Especially DEC getting our electricity up in 4 1/2 hrs. Xfinity getting our cable running in about 4hours also, beside giving temporarily wifi Hotspot so I can have a connection and phone service, even a credit on my bill too.

Thank you Mr petty John for recognizing everyone that help get our community back in order. I feel so blessed that we have all these folks.

Thank you too all🙏🙏

Thank you for giving them props! My husband works for Del DOT and my dad used to work for Delmarva Power. They work hard to get services and roadways to where they need to be. We are very spoiled in this country and take these services for granted, not realizing how blessed we are.

I was amazed at how fast not just the main roads, but the back as well, were cleared of snow and fallen trees. Great work!

Thank you for your service as well as State police and emergency workers

Brian Pettyjohn thank You so much. Thank all of DEC workers. I still don’t have electric but I realize how bad the storm was👏

We just can't thank them enough for working so hard, so diligently, so committed to their customers. We just can't thank them enough.

Thanks to all for keeping us safe!

Great job everyone! So appreciate each & every one of you.

Thankful for the farmers also who were willing to go out during the storm and pull out DEC trucks and other vehicles.

Thank you All!

A proposed regulation change would require low voltage wiring (data cables, telephone cables, etc) to be installed by a licensed electrician. Such an unnecessary change would drive up the cost of business and construction. ... See MoreSee Less

The meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday Feb. 17 at 12:30pm. Link for more information, and how to view and participate during public comment: publicmeetings.delaware.gov/#/meeting/84840

Hmm, just curious, are all the folks currently employed by Comcast, Verizon… going to become electricians? Are electricians going to be required to learn all the things the cable, telephone and fiber optic folks do?

No put batteries in a flashlight.

Carbin Vs Town of Savoy. Currently at the US Supreme Court. State of Massachusetts prevents homeowners from doing any plumbing work on their home without being a licensed plumber. The Supreme Court is going to decide whether you have the right to work on their own homes.

Leave the high voltage to the electricians. Let the data guys do their work. There is no similarity between these two other than they install wires. Allow common sense to prevail!

I work & can't view nor participate at that time. I work in Building Code and I hear how nice it is here compared to other Counties & States. I see alot of do it your selfers, we call them weekend warriors. Alot of men & some women are able to do so much of their own construction work and save so much money. Building cost is staggering high, our children can't even afford to build a basic 1 story ranch home around here for more than a quarter of a million dollars. Next it's going to be plumbing & mechanical being regulated. Please let property owners go to Lowes & HD and buy chandeliers & toilets to do their own fixing & upgrades without being regulated in their own homes.

Hmm 6 years ago I called the cable company to set up the cable AGAIN ( in a house I was moving into) The Comcast guy came & said I had to have an electrician come to run the cable for my house then the cable company would connect it. It’s craziness. It takes time to get a professional licensed person to come do work in your home UNLESS it’s an emergency then it’s triple the cost n often still takes 48 hrs..

It’s wild because there are speakers that run on 70v. Network cables that carry POE are carrying 48v. Neither of those are a fire hazard.

Whose name is on this bill?

Hello!!! Aren’t their more pressing, & productive issues to address?!?

Been in this business for over 50 years. This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

Also telecom is not electrical work

A few years ago, the electrical board put in a change where only a licensed electrician can trouble shoot the electrical side of HVACR systems. 90% of electricians refuse to touch these systems because of liability issues.

Why would they have the Meeting when People are working?? Governor doesn't want people to show up. It should be manditory to have these meetings after work hours

That’s insane.

More invasion by dover most will ignore i always have

What’s the reason for this proposal? Has there been that many homes or businesses burn down or WHAT?

Another regulation we don’t need. Please .. let’s work on real issues.

Anthony Savini better get your electricians on board!

Shared to alot of groups

The proposal is just stupid. But the majority party is just making up laws because they can. We need to end the building of 200 home developments, focus on cleaning the suburban areas which are all getting a slum look and ditch the liberal control and forced bullpoop laws and regulations

Safety licensed electrician is great udra

Sounds like stupid is co.ing to town

Hmmmm, which politician is making money off of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard today the proposal was withdrawn, if it was even a valid proposal. Regardless, hope none of you vote for this if it comes up for a vote at any point. It is ridiculous.

Should be interesting

See you there 👏☕️☕️🍩🍩

thanks..

Maybe you can use your influence to get DNREC to stop corporate and government polluters. This trench on Mountaire’s spray fields empties directly into Swan Creek. DNREC, EPA, and DOJ all know about it and the all know it’s illegal. The legislators need to step up to the plate and start holding oversight hearings across the board. You’re allowing the executive branch to make a mockery of the legislature.
