Yesterday afternoon, Senate Democrats voted against an amendment to the Senate rules which would have required governor nominees, such as cabinet secretaries and judges, to be vetted by subject-matter experts on the relevant standing committee before they moved to the Executive Committee. For example, judges would have to be heard by the Judiciary Committee, DNREC Secretary by the Environment, Energy & Transportation Committee, etc.
This common-sense change aimed to make the confirmation process more thorough and effective. Unfortunately, it failed along party lines.
My Republican colleagues and I remain committed to improving transparency and accountability in the Senate.
