Rates of anxiety, depression, substance use disorders and other mental health challenges continue to rise across all age groups. At the same time, access to care has not kept pace with demand, leaving many Delawareans waiting weeks or even months to see providers, if they can find one at all.

The simple reality is we do not have enough mental health professionals to meet the needs of our communities.

That’s why I introduced Senate Bill 208, a practical, responsible step toward addressing this challenge.

The lack of mental health support for teens and adolescents in our area is devastating. Too many young people are struggling during some of the most critical years of their lives, yet access to care is limited and families are often left with nowhere to turn. Our youth deserve timely support, compassionate care, and resources that help them navigate the challenges they face. We cannot continue to ignore the growing mental health needs of our young people.

We definitely need more mental health support. Nice work Brian.

Mental health services are definitely needed in Delaware especially our elderly population

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Now what do you think the root cause of that is?? Do you realize what slips between the cracks there? I don’t know if we can access my papers from 20 years ago but it has only gotten worse. Roooooot caaaaauuseee annnallysis duuuudddddeeeee🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️💜

Its also bc none of the agencies want to testify in court, as many are on services that require it/ a testimony of proof they are in services.

Our mental health resources in Sussex County are an embarrassment. Thank you Brian.

Thanks, Brian!

Awesome!

The democratic party needs mental support. Seriously!

The way that DE treats SUD and other mental health issues needs to be addressed. The current model is outdated and ineffective. This isn't something you can throw money at and expect to see real meaningful change in a positive way. It seems to me that there isn't very much oversight once the funds have been dispersed, only a rush to spend it so that another round of grants can be applied for. We have to target the youth that are out in the streets as well. When I say target I mean actually boots on the ground and engaging with the youth and finding out exactly what's going on and offering not just the addicts a way out but also the young men and women out on the blocks. I understand we wouldn't be able to save them all but they all deserve the chance. A new multi-pronng approach is needed. The current model is a complete failure. Being on MAT for the rest of their lives isn't helping anyone but pharmaceutical companies. I find it concerning that the funds from the Opioid Settlement are being diverted right back into the pockets of the very companies that kicked this whole thing off. Case and point MAT in DOC which is using said funds to pay for long term MAT in the facilities. We can definitely do better which would benefit everyone.

I’m trying to find a therapist for my child. Because she is still in school, it needs to be outside of school hours. I’ve looked and looked and called and called. I can’t find anyone, and I’m desperate. I know some would say take her out of school for appointments, but if you think about it, I’d have to take her out of school at least a half hour before the appointment to get there, then and hour there, and a other half hour to get back, that 2 hrs of class work she’s missed, and it’s the same time each week, so she is missing 20% of the class work she’s missing in the same classes every week. That isn’t a good option either. I have no idea what to do!

I had a great time visiting the Sussex County Science Fair today at Delaware Tech in Georgetown. The level of creativity, effort, and knowledge on display was truly impressive. Students did an outstanding job not only designing their projects, but also confidently explaining their research and findings.

It was also a full-circle moment during the visit. Mr. Snyder shared a 1992 newspaper clipping from a science experiment his class conducted and the photo happened to include a young me, as I was a student in Mr. Snyder’s class at the time!

Seeing that photo was a great reminder that the curiosity and hands-on learning happening in classrooms today can spark ideas that last a lifetime. Great job to all of the students who participated in this year’s science fair!

Following this week’s unusual winter storm, I want to recognize the men and women who have been working around the clock to keep our communities safe and restore essential services. Crews from DelDOT, Delmarva Power, the Delaware Electric Co-Op, municipal public works departments and their power providers, and our phone, cable, and internet companies have been out in difficult conditions clearing roads, repairing lines, restoring connectivity, and taking your calls.

While significant progress has been made, some residents are still experiencing outages. Fallen trees continue to block portions of roadways, and in some neighborhoods and subdivisions travel may be limited to a single passable lane. Please use caution, allow extra travel time, and remain patient as crews continue their work.

This storm has been an exception to what we typically experience in Delaware. For those who have moved here from regions where storms like this are routine, our infrastructure, staffing levels, and equipment are not designed for this level of impact. Even so, the response has been steady, professional, and focused on safety.

Thank you to everyone working long hours to restore normalcy, and to our residents for their patience and cooperation as work continues.

This looks like the road we live on in Georgetown. We live on Cedar Lane

100% agree! All the crews working deserve our gratitude for their sacrifices and dedication.

They are doing a great job and we appreciate all their hard work!

And thank you to our first responders: Fire, Police and EMS...and us 911 Dispatchers and our Call-takers...all of whom are "essential personnel", who (if scheduled to work) cannot "stay home and stay safe". Also a shout out to the Emergency OPs Center Supervising Staff who showed up to take the lead on all emergencies happening in Sussex County as a result of this blizzard and/or during this time.

And thank you to the neighbors helping neighbors.

Thank you for your help and your hard working 🙏😘

I agree Senator that the men and women that braved blizzard conditions and its aftermath to secure power should be applauded as heroes. My son and I had no power for three days and we were so appreciative of the updates that Delaware Co-op provided . I salute them

You all have been amazing. I went out shopping today and saw all the damaged trees and power lines. Thank you for your hard worand long hours. We may have lost power for awhile but we were inside and had blankets while you had to be out in hazardous conditions.

Thanks to all for your time, efforts and dedication!!!!

Well said, Senator Pettyjohn.

Yes! Thank you all so much for your hard work! The blizzard of 2026.

Yes sir !!!!

Thank ya all and stay safe, prayers 🙏

Thank you all for what excellent craftsmanship and dedication. You all deserve a round of applause. You people are really amazing. Especially DEC getting our electricity up in 4 1/2 hrs. Xfinity getting our cable running in about 4hours also, beside giving temporarily wifi Hotspot so I can have a connection and phone service, even a credit on my bill too.

Thank you Mr petty John for recognizing everyone that help get our community back in order. I feel so blessed that we have all these folks.

Thank you too all🙏🙏

Thank you for giving them props! My husband works for Del DOT and my dad used to work for Delmarva Power. They work hard to get services and roadways to where they need to be. We are very spoiled in this country and take these services for granted, not realizing how blessed we are.

I was amazed at how fast not just the main roads, but the back as well, were cleared of snow and fallen trees. Great work!

Thank you for your service as well as State police and emergency workers

Brian Pettyjohn thank You so much. Thank all of DEC workers. I still don’t have electric but I realize how bad the storm was👏

We just can't thank them enough for working so hard, so diligently, so committed to their customers. We just can't thank them enough.

Thanks to all for keeping us safe!

Great job everyone! So appreciate each & every one of you.

Thankful for the farmers also who were willing to go out during the storm and pull out DEC trucks and other vehicles.

Thank you All!
